Rajasthan is a state of many identities. Often associated with colour, history and royalty this north western state has enveloped in its embrace experiences and sights that are native and unforgettable. As the largest state on the Indian subcontinent, Rajasthan has landscapes that are varied and diverse. The state is also a cultural hub as it is home to art and craft that dates back to many centuries, if not eras. 1. Jaipur
The capital and largest city of Rajasthan was founded in the year 1727 and is nicknamed the 'Pink City' on account of its pink-coloured architecture. Constructed according to the principles of the Vastu Shastra, Jaipur is home to many beautiful forts, palaces and temples. The city is especially popular for monuments like the Hawa Mahal, Nahargarh Fort and the Jantar Mantar Observatory among several other structures of historical relevance. 2. Udaipur
Known as the 'Venice of the East', Udaipur is a city blessed with natural beauty. Studded with lakes like Lake Pichola, Udai Sagar and Swaroop Sagar, the city makes for a charming landscape that is difficult to forget. Several palaces like the Fateh Prakash Palace have been converted into hotels and offer delightful insights into the history of the region. 3. Jodhpur

4. Jaisalmer
Known as the Golden City of Rajasthan, Jaisalmer is popular for its extensive stretches of uninterrupted sand dunes, temples, palaces and forts. The Tanot Mata Temple is the closest one can get to the Indo-Pak border is revered as a place untouched by attacks during war. The Jaisalmer Fort built in yellow sandstone is an imposing structure that has defined and lent character to the city itself.



5. Ajmer
Surrounded by the Aravalli ranges, Ajmer qualifies as one of the most popular destinations in Rajasthan and is also a religious hub in the country. The Dargah Sharif is considered to be amongst the most pious in the Muslim community and attracts thousands of devotees on a daily basis. Another attraction in Ajmer is the Pushkar Camel Fair, a 5-day event comprising of cattle competitions like camel races, camel dance and tug of war .
